As Lead Big Data Engineer you coordinate and support your data engineering colleagues with the development and implementation of strategies for the collection, storage and analytical processing of large data sets from various sources. You partner up on data pipeline implementations, storage, crunching and manipulation. You facilitate the delivery of data insights in close collaboration with your data analysis colleagues, ensuring that production data is always accurate and available.

Your Role

• Align regularly with data architects and system engineers on the implementation plans and share this knowledge with the data engineering team.
• Align regularly with technical leads of other development teams to discuss the project dependencies linked to the data lake.
• Keep an eye on the sprint tickets the data engineers are working on and assign new tickets from the backlog if there is capacity left in the sprint.
• Support the functional analyst to document the technical schemes and requirements in Jira and Confluence for project and ad hoc requests.
• Create and maintain an optimal data pipeline architecture to collect large, complex data sets from multiple sources that meet (non-)functional business requirements.
• Effectively plan, organize and efficiently manage incoming requests, eliminating unnecessary activities.
• Create or enrich easy to use data models from raw data for further analytics and storage in the data warehouse.
• Integrate big data stacks with CS and CRM software.
• Provide technical assistance to data scientists for implementation of machine learning use cases and development of statistical models.
• Build scalable and robust REST API’s.
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: e.g. automation of manual processes, optimization of data ingestion and delivery, redesign of infrastructure for increased scalability.

Your Profile

• a higher degree in technology, data or an equivalent.
• several years of professional experience in a similar role.
• you are an effective communicator who uses appropriate language at all levels -both spoken and written- in English, while Dutch communication skills would be an asset.
• experience with, and good understanding of big data concepts and approaches like Data Lakes, Data Mesh and Data Warehousing.
• you have hands-on experience in building Spark Scala or PySpark ETL pipelines.
• you have good software engineering skills in programming languages like Scala, Python or Java.
• solid knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
• experience with big data tools and services in a cloud (Google) ecosystem.
• experience with a job scheduler such as Apache Airflow.
• knowledge of webservices and experience with REST API’s.
• experience in working in an Agile environment (Scrum / Kanban).
• you are a mature person, analytical and logical in nature, have a high sense of responsibility, take initiatives and are a veritable team player who can inspire and coordinate peers.
