Duties

Responsible for the operation and program, maintains control of and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth.
  • Supervises children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Works within prescribed staff-to-child ratio with children and youth.
  • Encourages participant interest and establishes a program setting.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.
  • Works with trainers and supervisors to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.
  • Assists children and youth with special projects, homework, and life skills.
  • Instructs team members in specific tasks and job techniques; makes available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
  • Explains program guidance, procedures, policies, and directives to team members.
  • Provides on-the-job training and instruction to team members.
  • Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as directed.

  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A probation period of one year may be required.
  • Successfully complete a health screening. Immunizations required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility.
  • MUST be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Possesses satisfactory completion of pre-employment background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-13, to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
  • In consideration of COVID-19, personnel within this area routinely wear personal protective equipment (cloth face coverings, latex gloves, and face shields) while performing their regular duties.
  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Individual who have been trained will be required to administer routine and rescue medications prescribed by a physician to children/youth, perform CPR and first aid, and provide a reasonable accommodation to children/youth with a special need.
  • Successful completion of Lead Foundation Level training and annual training requirements is required.
  • Travel to on and off post locations may be required. Schedule may include irregular hours, evenings, and/or weekends. Duties involve working both indoors and outdoors
Qualifications

CANDIDATE MUST:
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate, and
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
IN ADDITION to the above:
  • Two years of specialized experience working in a group program with children or youth PLUS
  • An associate’s degree or at least 60 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Special Education. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.
OR

Possess and maintain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential.

Highly-Qualifying Criteria

In addition to the above, highly-qualified candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • Experience assisting with childcare or youth program national accreditation processes.
  • Experience participating in multi-disciplinary or higher level child/youth program inspections.
  • Experience working with varying age groups in early childhood (6 weeks to 6 years)
  • Experience leading or mentoring lower level childcare/youth program staff.
Education

SUBSTITUTION of EDUCATION:A bachelor’s degree or at least 120 semester hours with a major course of study (24 semester hours) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education, or Special Education. General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.

Additional information

As a recruitment incentive, we are offering a $200 recruitment bonus and an $800 retention bonus.
