MLex Correspondent, Energy and Climate, Brussels

Global regulatory risk newswire MLex is looking for a Correspondent to cover Energy and Climate regulation in the EU, based in Brussels. Reporting experience and prior knowledge of the beat are required.

The role:

You will write about a range of EU regulation covering climate, sustainability and energy markets. This will include various aspects of the “Fit for 55” decarbonization package currently going through the legislative process, as well as topics such as sustainable finance, energy security and climate litigation.

Writing for an influential audience of executives, lawyers, consultants and policymakers, you will be expected to keep on top of major developments, deliver exclusive stories, and produce sophisticated commentary and analysis.

You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues covering adjacent beats including trade (e.g. the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) and financial services (green finance).

Nevertheless, you need to demonstrate the ability to take overall responsibility for your beat and ensure that everything is covered with minimal oversight from editors. You must also be able to write clearly, producing stories that are both detailed and accessible to non-experts.

You must have the right to work full-time in Belgium, though we might consider sponsoring a visa for an exceptional candidate. You will be expected to work from our office in the EU quarter at least two days a week, with the option to work from home on the other days, under our post-Covid hybrid working policy.

What we are looking for:

  • Deep interest in and knowledge of EU climate and energy regulation
  • Network of sources and track record of producing exclusive stories
  • News judgment and analytical skills
  • Accurate writing and reporting standards
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent written and spoken English
