MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:

After successful completion of the on the job training, you will strengthen the team of General Aviation Underwriters in Brussels and support our further expansion into Continental Europe.

Superior underwriting and qualitative service to stakeholders are key differentiating factors in the highly competitive insurance and reinsurance market. The underwriter directly contributes to AXIS’ performance in this area.

It is expected that this individual will underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with an agreed underwriting authority, and that they develop their knowledge and understanding of this business.

It is essential that the candidate should have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team, establish and maintain strong beneficial working relationships with Brokers and Axis colleagues. They should be a highly motivated individual and be able to manage their time well.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

In your job you will focus on the following tasks and duties:

• Understand the needs of the client
• Accept and quote business following guidelines and within underwriting guidelines to achieve targets as set out in the business plan
• Handle the portfolio with the goal of achieving the operational goals of the team
• Negotiate and ensure qualitative relations with brokers and clients
• Actively participate to continuous improvement of service levels
• Achieve agreed training programmes as applicable, market seminars, etc.
• Ensure understanding of risk decisions, selection and underwriting process and reviewing the policies written to ensure underwriting standards are maintained.
• Entering data entry of risks underwritten on underwriting systems and spreadsheets.
• Is responsible for effectively managing administrative functions with other members of the team to promote a corporate culture which pays due regard to the interests of Customers and always treats them fairly.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

• Strong interest in aviation and willingness to learn about the sector
• Bachelor in Insurance or Master in Law, Economy or Finance
• Capable of analysing and managing a portfolio of complex risks
• Fluent in Dutch/French and English. Any other European language is an asset
• Experienced in using IT systems and MS Office proficient
• Communicative, accurate, analytical, reliable, customer-oriented, service-minded
• Influencing, negotiating, listening and questioning skills
