The Head, Third Party Excellence (Global Clinical Operations) is accountable for a fit-for-purpose third party excellence framework, adequate oversight, and sustainable governance across Global Clinical Operations to enable effective third party operations and minimize the risks on GSK’s clinical pipeline delivery caused by the involvement of external fee-for-service third parties.
The Head, Third Party Excellence is a member of the “Quality, Capability and Risk Management (QCRM)” leadership team within Global Clinical Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and refine a strong strategic vision for a fit-for-purpose governance and oversight framework of fee-for-service third parties involved in the delivery of our clinical trials
- IImplement and Execute the strategic vision for sustainable risk management of third parties involved in delivering our clinical trials
- Ensure that functional needs, concerns and objectives towards third party engagements across Global Clinical Operations are consolidated and aligned
- Ensure close business partnering particularly with GSK procurement and third party excellence groups operating within other clinical functions outside of Global Clinical OperationsOversee ownership for the Third Party Management process including design, maintenance, continuous improvement and process risk monitoring (this covers the cross-functional span of the process across all of Research & Development, R&D)
- Driv collaboration of a large cross-functional network of third party leaders and experts across all R&D functions, procurement, QA and legal
- Ensure appropriate information of senior stakeholders (R&D leadership team, functional leadership teams) about key risks and issues relating to the use of third parties in the delivery of the R&D pipeline
- Ensure appropriate inspection preparation and inspection support for all matters related to third party risk and oversight
- Drive capability building across R&D to successfully engage with R&D third parties while increasing operational effectiveness and minimizing risk
- Serve as an expert point of contact for third party risk and oversight, both internally and externally, successfully influencing and engaging internal and external stakeholders to shape this space within GSK and the industry
- Focus on continuous improvement to drive operational effectiveness, acceleration and quality ambitions across R&D
- Build partnerships, leading and driving change, influencing mindset and culture to enhance organizational performance in regards to third party risk and oversight
- Lead, manage, coach and develop a global team of associates located in Europe, US and India
- As a member of the QCRM leadership team, co-drive and co-develop the quality & compliance agenda for GCO for successful delivery of clinical trials and the R&D pipeline
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, or equivalent
- A broad pharmaceutical industry background in research and development
- Significant experience in third party management in the context of clinical trial delivery
- Significant team leadership experience in a relevant industry role
- Able to see the big picture, to develop a guiding vision and define clear goals and strategies in support of that vision
- Able to translate a strategy into actionable items and follow-through with execution until full delivery of the desired impact
- Able to communicate clearly and to the point with the flexibility to adjust based on the audience and desired impact
- Be at ease with partnering with senior and junior stakeholders across the organization (inside and outside of GCO) and with partners and service providers external to GSK
- Able to truly collaborate, i.e. to listen, understand, align and deliver as a team with diverse stakeholders and team members
- Understand the difference between leading and managing, be strong at both and know when you are required to be a leader and when a manager
- Masters or PhD Degree
- Business Acumen - understands implications of decisions from a broad business perspective and uses this knowledge to influence decision-making at the highest levels of R&D and with external partners.
- Proven ability to drive process improvement in a matrix environment and with demonstrated leadership in the application of innovative approaches with portfolio-level impact.
- A strong sense of initiative, urgency, drive, pragmatism, and judgement – an ability to make things happen.
- Ability to deliver to demanding deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality.
