Due to our continued growth and customer demand we’re hiring a Product Development Engineer

in Kessel Lo, Belgium.

You will find our solutions in the largest buildings, venues and outdoor spaces; in data centres and buildings of all shapes, sizes and complexity; at wireless cell sites and in cable headends; and in airports, trains, and tunnels. Vital networks around the world run on CommScope solutions.

Reporting to the Director of R&D and joining a fantastic team of Product Development and Mechanical Engineering professionals, this role is an exciting and integral part of our Network Cable and Connectivity Engineering department.

The purpose of this role is to develop products, managing all technical elements while maintaining performance and schedule, with a focus on development projects in optical fiber management and sealing technologies. You’ll act as a technical product leader, understanding customer and business requirements and transforming these into innovative concepts and designs - and ultimately into real products!

This is a highly technical role that will allow you to collaborate globally across our other R&D facilities and departments (such as R&D, operations, product management, sales), with full accountability for your projects. You’ll be results driven and always looking to learn where our next opportunity to innovate might be. A true team player, you’ll enjoy working closely with your fellow team members.

You’ll make an impact by

• Collecting business requirements and transform into innovative concept & design and real products
• Understand the Consumer and Competitive Products to uncover document needs for New Product Development.
• Create feasibility models and prototypes to validate product concepts
• Prepare and initiate engineering design reviews and FMEA’s on assigned projects
• Keep abreast of existing and new technologies that are applicable to areas of responsibility
• Interpret regulatory guidelines and transfer this into product requirements
• Identify intellectual property opportunities and initiate filing process
• Facilitate team working / support team members (engineers, CADs, technicians) + close collaboration with other departments (operations, product management, sales)
• Control project resources, costs and schedule
• Manage technical objectives
• Represent R&D in front of customers to analyze customer requests and requirements
• Communicate technical status and progress to stakeholders
• Interact with other global CommScope R&D facilities, Network with universities and other research institutes.

Required Qualifications for Consideration:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, ideally within the last 5-7 years
• 3-5 years relevant experience in:
• Product development
• Project management / managing project teams for technical projects
• Knowledge of plastics and metals processing techniques and design rules
• Project management methodologies and tools
• Knowledge of relevant R&D engineering tools
• 3D CAD Creo and able to visualize concepts / designs in 3D
• Fluent in English and Dutch (read, write, speak)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to lead, motivate and get results
• Hands-on problem-solving skills

You’ll excite us if you have

• 3-5 years’ experience in mechanical design of sheet metal or molded engineering plastic partsusing 3D CAD Creo.
• Technical knowledge of fiber connectivity products and solutions
• 6 sigma and LEAN development tools
• Simulation tools (e.g. FEM tools)
