Job Purpose

As Lean Value Stream Manager (LVSM), you give the direction of the Manufacturing Unit. You support the business strategy and MPU objectives by improving process efficiency within the MPU through the deployment of 6 Sigma initiatives. You coach, teach and develop others to use the tools and methodologies of GPS. You tap into unused employee creativity. You eliminate waste in every process and drive the organization towards standard work. You ensure projects are integrated with other business activities, improvement projects, and the business strategy. You are the back-up of your Head of Prod and also of the different SLLs/FLLs if needed.

This position has significant impact on the success of the MPU. The LVSM will help make the MPU a safer place to work, improve the company’s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce cost and increase profits.

Your Responsibilities

Leadership
  • Contributes to the determination of the MPU manufacturing and supply strategy to meet the business objectives of GSK Vaccines and to secure the overall interests of the company and the welfare of employees.
  • Partners with peers and stakeholders in the MPU, above MPU, to share vision and work towards common objectives; challenges peers to chase wastes in everything they propose.

Operational Excellence
  • Identifies best practices, encourages informed risk taking and acts as a catalyst for innovation. Relentlessly challenges the status-quo to enrich continuous improvement of the MPU operations
  • Develops process and value stream maps
  • Leads Kaizen events
  • Serves as a change agent and role model for process excellence
  • Supports the production to investigate and find corrective actions for significant variations from production standards (Quality and Output). Proposes technical solutions and new ideas in order to increase quality, line output and active yield in close collaboration with the Head of Product/Process

Project Management Office
  • Manages the technical or quality projects and continuously anticipates and follows up potential priority changes linked to Risk Register while assuring compliance with existing standards.
  • Follow up of all projects impacting the MPU whatever the trigger (QIP, Capex, RPC, CAPA, risk management …)
  • Develops, tracks and communicates metrics to ensure improvement efforts and resource deployment are implemented effectively and in line with business goals, objectives and strategy. Provides expertise and leadership to run the Project Management Office: participate to the selection of improvement projects, ensures projects are staffed and supported by experts
  • Manages the technical or quality projects and continuously anticipates and follows up potential priority changes linked to Risk Register while assuring compliance with existing standards

Learning
  • Drives the MPU towards being a learning organization that enables people to deliver exceptional and sustainable performance
  • Improves process / product knowledge within the MPU by driving the training / education system
  • Leads the development of Lean and Six Sigma education by training and coaching of relays and middle Management

People & Organization
  • Leads, selects, trains, evaluates, coaches and motivates team towards the pursuit of supply excellence and the attainment of Good Manufacturing Practice
  • Ensures optimal staffing levels and competencies are in place and ensures the retention, engagement and development of talent within the organization
  • As a leader, personally role models and develops the team towards high performance behaviours in line with the leadership framework.
  • Engages the team to deliver the GSK Vaccines, GIO and Belgium Industrial Operations Strategy

Quality / Regulatory
  • Ensures adherence to legal constraints, local and international standards, cCMP, Regulatory requirements and all GSK Quality Management Systems (QMS) policies and procedures as applicable

Risk / Compliance
  • Enforces and maintains high standards of cGMP as well as an efficient and effective system of documentation to ensure compliance with GSK and regulatory requirements to satisfy any external audit for conformance

Financial
  • Is responsible for preparing the annual operational budget, forecast and manpower allocation
  • Manages allocated budget
  • Analyses write offs and optimizes working capital

Health, Security, Environment
  • Is responsible for the compliance with all applicable standards and policies

Change and continuous improvement
  • Provides leadership for change initiatives which contribute to the overall effective improvement of GSK Vaccines manufacturing & supply
  • Ensures continuous improvement
  • Implements new processes to increase service levels and to enhance business performance
  • Shares and integrates best practices within the GSK Vaccines and wider GSK Manufacturing & Supply Network

GSK Image / Representation
  • Responsible for representing GSK to visitors, local authorities and during external audits as required

Why you?

Basic Qualifications

We are looking for professionals with the following required skills to achieve our goals (must-have):
  • University degree in Engineering or equivalent expertise in Civil, Chemical or Biologicals Engineering
  • At least 5 years of working experience of which 2 years in Lean/6 Sigma manufacturing in a similar role
  • Proficient in the use of 6Sigma tools and methodologies
  • Green Belt certified
  • Proficiency in French with a very good command of English – both written and spoken
  • Champion for change
  • Result-oriented
  • Ability to coach, teach and develop

Preferred Qualifications

The following characteristics are assets (nice-to-have):
  • Black Belt certification
  • Advanced knowledge in Lean Sigma manufacturing
  • Biopharmaceuticals technologies.
  • Biotech experience
  • Very good knowledge of GMP for biological products
