RESEARCHER COATINGS

You at AGC’s Technovation Centre – Surfaces department – your mission

• You will be based at the Technovation Centre close to Brussels (Belgium) where research & development, engineering and IP activities are centralised under one roof with 300 members of personnel
• More specifically you will join the wet coatings team inside the Surfaces department - a dynamic team of researchers and technicians active in the field of wet deposition of layers and coatings whose objective is:
  • to improve the quality of existing products and the performance of industrial tools
  • to develop innovative solutions bringing new functionalities to glass
  • to develop new technologies that best meet customer requirements.
• Training and specific support will be put in place from the first months with our researchers and technicians

Your mission will focus around the three following areas.

1. Knowledge management

• Analyse technological evolutions in some specific area of wet coatings (painting, silvering, printing, acid-etching… etc).
• Establish an R & D network inside and outside AGC
• Create synergies between the different internal (R&D, IP, marketing or business units) and external stakeholders (universities, institutions etc)
• Develop good practices

2. Product portfolio management

• Generate ideas to fill in gaps in our products portfolio
• Design new formulations and coatings to meet customer specifications at laboratory scale
• Guide laboratory technicians in the handling or preparation of solutions and samples
• Industrialize the new coatings on industrial production facilities
• Propose new applications processes and/or new technologies to enlarge industrial capabilities
• Develop new functionalities (optical, touch, aesthetic, interactive, dynamic)

3. Industrial assistance

• Provide assistance for the start-up of new wet coatings, the transfer of technologies from one site to another and the fine-tuning of industrial processes.
• Provide assistance to the plant for the production of standard products

Your scientific profile :

• Civil engineer or PHD chemistry or related field
• Nice to have: 3 to 5 years relevant working experience in the field of product development / (wet coatings.
• You understand that a researcher’s job is more than sitting behind a screen or running experiments in the labs. You have a strong affinity with industrial and operational processes and enjoy being on the field.
• You are willing to work in a team, in interaction with other researchers, technicians (bachelors and industrial engineers) and operators.

Your general skills

• Multitasker, curious with a bias for action, perseverant and autonomous.
• Structured and rigorous: attention to details with ability to oversee all aspects of a project
• Efficient communicator in multicultural environments: presentations, reports, discussions, negotiations.
• Willingness to travel (short missions).
• Fluent in English (essential). Knowledge of French is a plus.
