Job Summary:

The Upstream Process Engineer is responsible for the development, design and optimization of upstream processes for the production of biologics. This role involves working with cell culture and fermentation processes to ensure efficient and high-quality production of therapeutic proteins, vaccines, or other biologics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process Development: Design the required equipment, develop, and optimize upstream processes including cell culture and fermentation.

• FAT / SAT support: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to test all the process equipment @ the vendor shop and on site. Document all required testing in relevant protocols and reports

• Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve process-related and technical issues to maintain optimal production performance.

• Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of process equipment, User requirement and design qualification protocols and reports.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all processes comply with regulatory requirements and cGMP industry standards.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.

• Experience: Relevant experience in upstream equipment design in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry. (5-10 years)

• Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in bioreactor operation, and familiarity with regulatory guidelines (e.g., GMP).

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with (single-use) bioreactors and continuous/perfusion culture systems.

• Knowledge of Centrifugation / filtration technologies

• Knowledge of automation systems ;(Delta V / PI historian and MES systems is an asset.) • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
