Pernod Ricard’s Brussels Public Affairs office consists of teams of experts looking after 1) European affairs matters; 2) international trade; and 3) sustainability, responsibility and communications for EMEA-LATAM.
Pernod Ricard is looking for a new member to join Brussels Public Affairs office who would focus specifically on needs of EMEA-LATAM region 1) supporting the company’s business objectives through the public policy engagement, and 2) enhancing PR S&R objectives through implementing our flagship responsible drinking program “Responsible Party” in the region, acting as part of the wider Pernod Ricard global public affairs team. The successful candidate will be participating in implementing the company’s public policy and S&R strategy for the region and individual countries, supporting EMEA-LATAM markets in the implementation of their strategies.
Job purpose
To reinforce Brussels Public affairs team’s support to Pernod Ricard’s EMEA-LATAM markets through the following tasks:
  • Supporting affiliates in a) developing their public affairs strategies in line with global Pernod Ricard’s public affairs and S&R strategy, in line with EMEA-LATAM regional priorities and domestic needs and b) implementing concrete actions to promote the Pernod Ricard’s positions towards the local authorities and relevant national professional organizations.
  • Ensuring that the public affairs actions in the region integrate risks and opportunities coming from European and international public policies (including UN, WHO) and that affiliates act upon them and vice versa.
  • Providing local affiliates with appropriate advocacy materials and tools, including “global best practices” to address local policy and regulatory matters.
  • Monitoring and adjusting the implementation of the EMEA-LATAM public affairs strategy.
  • Developing and co-creating Responsible Party program’s strategy and direction, both on the field and online through the digital campaign, in line with the Group’s global S&R strategy, as well as the needs of the program and overseeing the implementation process.
Roles and responsibilities:
  • Mission 1: Public Affairs – under the supervision of the Brussels Public affairs team to support affiliates public affairs activities on policy and regulatory issues with an impact on our operations. Policy matters include,inter alia, international trade, investment, alcohol and health, sustainable food, taxation, environment, and regulatory matters include product definitions, labelling, product innovations. This supportive mission involves namely:
    Adapting global public affairs action plans for the implementation at local level considering specificities and needs of the markets.
    Developing arguments to support engagement with local authorities when necessary including provision of both group and industry advocacy tools and templates as appropriate.
    Ensuring that our S&R initiatives, like Responsible Party, support and reinforce our public affairs activities in the markets.
    Anticipating, monitoring and providing relevant technical and /or regulatory advocacy advice concerning the legislative process and upcoming legislations.
    Conveying company’s positions in formal and informal consultations with local authorities where needed, on areas within the scope of competence of the position that are relevant for the company businesses and products.
    Systemic monitoring of the implementation of the regional and local public affairs strategies in EMEA-LATAM markets.
  • Mission 2: Responsible Party – under the supervision of the Head of the sustainability, responsibility and communication team of EMEA-LATAM to develop and co-create program’s strategy and direction, both on the field and online through the digital campaign, in line with the Group’s global S&R strategy, as well as the needs of the program. This mission includes namely: Researching and developing new partnerships for the program to achieve the global and regional strategy. Communicating about the program towards relevant stakeholders, including national policymakers, but also youth organizations, NGOs, researchers, in coordination with the Brussels Public affairs team. Coordinating Pernod Ricard’s internal stakeholders around the project and to ensure visibility of the program internally. Organizing regular updates with the Responsible Party team to share strategic developments on the project and progress. Overseeing the operational side of the program and the relationship with the different partners (such as Erasmus Student Network). Overseeing and monitoring the program’s budget.
Profile:
Education required: Bachelor or Masters-level in legal, political science or economics.
Work experience required: 5 years of experience in public affairs. Previous experience within a national government and/or corporate social responsibility projects would be an asset.
Language required: Fluency in English and at least another major language (i.e., German, French, Spanish) is a prerequisite
  • Solid understanding of governmental processes and public sector, including the international political and regulatory environment.
  • Work experience in the food, agriculture, wine and spirits business would be an asset, but is not a strict requirement.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Writing, communication and oral presentation skills
  • Project management experience
  • Being a team player, with strong capability for developing personal networks an ability to work in a multicultural and diverse working environment.
  • Flexible, with ability to adapt easily to the evolving EU and international policy environment, on diverse policy topics.
  • Trustworthy, discreet, and professional in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Available for frequent travels. The role is based in Brussels (Rond Point Schuman 9)
