Job Description


A day in the life of aSocial Media Expert

As a Social Media Expert, you will be a part of a vibrant team whereas you will develop, monitor, and update a community management strategy in their respective country, with SMART objectives supported by KPIs. You will review all incoming community interactions on different social media platforms

Your main duties will be:

  • Ensure continuous participation in online conversations and act as a mediator
  • Engage pro-actively and provide meaningful responses in a timely manner covering the Representation’s social media accounts
  • Interact with users of social media platforms to respond to their questions and suggestions in line with corporate objectives and priorities
  • Identify threats and opportunities in user-generated content surrounding the Commission’s brand and reporting to internal stakeholders
  • Map influencers and follow closely the social media activities of influential groups and individuals and alerting on possible threats and opportunities
  • Provide recommendations on how to engage with such influential groups and individuals
  • Identify disinformation narratives and suggest ways to respond to them
  • Engage with criticism online, respond to dis- and misinformation about the EU
  • Identify other social media mentions
  • Provide support on central social media accounts for the corporate and localised campaigns
  • Collaborate with the community managers in the central team and local communication agencies implementing communication campaigns
  • Report on how our audiences interact with the content and flag alerts raised by social media users on hot topics and fake news to internal stakeholders and ensure integration of community management alerts and sentiment analysis into other reports
  • Develop and maintain an internal network of contacts needed to manage and build social media communities
  • Proactively suggest new ways to grow, care and engage with online communities (ex. new social media content and formats either from user-generated content or based on the requests coming from our audience)
  • Use corporate tools to provide Community Management (Emplifi at the time of writing this document)
  • Use corporate tools for regular social media listening and monitoring (TalkWalker at the time of writing this document)

Qualifications


If you have

  • At least 5 years of professional experience of which at least 3 years of social media management experience,
  • A university degree
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Very good knowledge of English,
  • A pro-European mind-set
  • Passion for and strong understanding of social media and how online communities work
  • Solid knowledge/understanding of EU affairs and priority topics of the European Commision (green, digital, economic recovery, solidarity with Ukraine, vaccination, EU in the world)
  • Excellent knowledge of the social media landscape
  • Good knowledge of political dynamics and landscape
  • Sound political judgement
  • Resilience
  • Capacity to work under time constraints,
  • Ability to research and draft simple and understandable replies to online users,
  • Excellent coordination and organisational skills,
  • Good presentation skills,
  • Problem-solving attitude and flexible team player

  • Experience in managing or moderating an online community, either professionally or in spare time
  • Knowledge how to tackle disinformation spreaders on social media
  • Knowledge of tools such as TalkWalker, Emplifi
  • Experience in working with influencers
