Department Manager Civil Works & Structural Engineering

In this role, you manage, organize and control the daily operations of the Engineering Department (10+ persons) dedicated to Civil Works, Structural Engineering & Architecture. This technical scope is covered from sales to project execution, with basic engineering done in-house and detailed engineering done by external partners. The Department also works with a wide network of material and equipment suppliers.These are the main responsibilities:

Tendering:

  • Final responsibility for the technical assessment of the civil & structural engineering and architecture duties, calculations, estimations, pricing and execution;
  • In particular, an ability to provide adequate preliminary estimation either at sales level or during early project execution phase.

Operational Management:

  • You act as technical referent for the Department at every step of the projects;
  • Coordination of the Department activities and resources;
  • You ensure adequate and timely execution of all projects, according to the QMS and including resources allocation, planning of the activities and the financial aspects;
  • Integration of the Department activities within global project execution, in close collaboration with the Project Managers.

Claim Management:

  • You proactively identify risks and take action to mitigate losses;
  • You manage and resolve claims received from the subcontractors or issued to subcontractors.

People Management:

  • Coaching of the team members and development of their competences through trainings;
  • Evaluation of the performance of the team members and definition of objectives;
  • You play a central role in the recruitment process of new team members.

Your profile

  • You have a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering/Construction/Structural Engineering/Architectural Engineering;
  • You have several years of experience working on major, international EPC projects in Industry;
  • Thanks to your technical expertise in civil works and/or structural engineering, you are able to play a leading role within an engineering department;
  • You have excellent skills in price estimations and are a strong negotiator with subcontractors;
  • You are a born organizer and are a gifted communicator;
  • You are open to travel 15% of the time, for short trips;
  • You express yourself fluently in English and French. Any other language is an asset.
