Overview:
For over 30 years ST Engineering iDirect Europe is a technology provider for satellite communications, with applications covering distribution of television, connecting locations that are difficult to reach (such as on-shore wind turbines), and internet over satellite. ST Engineering iDirect focuses on quality and therefore invests in research and development (R&D). Collaborating with universities is therefore important to keep up to date with the latest academic developments.
The student will intensively collaborate with the engineers from the physical layer research and development team.

Responsibilities:
For secrecy reasons, we cannot disclose the exact content of our internship proposals as the students collaborate with our research engineers to high end new physical layer features, for which the competition does not know yet we are working on those topics.
In order to be fast to market, and to convince internal and external teams of its value, we demonstrate new features on our high end products. Therefore, it is important to make a proof of concept in firmware, e.g. using VHDL programming. The student will therefore program or modify a component, synthesize it in an FPGA and demonstrate the new feature in the actual product.
Qualifications:
As a prerequisite to become our intern, you:
  • Work towards a bachelor/master’s degree in computer science, Civil engineer , Electromechanics
  • Have knownledge of the basics of signal processing and communication theory
  • VHDL programming is a plus
  • Are conversational in English
  • Can commit for a period of no less than 6 weeks
  • Are currently pursuing a degree of which the curriculum allows/obliges you to do an internship
  • Are a European passport holder

Once on board you will:
  • Be part of Physical Layer team based in our European Labs in Sint-Niklaas (Belgium)
  • Shape your internship based on your personal methodology and tools of interest.
  • Work closely with a team of around 7 experienced satellite communication professionals, be provided with the necessary tools and have a dedicated coach assigned to assist you
