JOB SUMMARY

As a specialist mechanical engineer, you will be a key member of the R&D metals engineering team which develops new state-of-the-art metal 3D printers. The team both develops next-gen technology as continuously improves and supports existing product lines.

You will take up the role of mechanical lead in one or more of our durable product teams. You will need to work closely together with mechanical engineering peers and colleagues in software, process, optical and electrical engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design for cost and design for X (manufacturing, service, reliability, …) is what drives you
• You can estimate what your designs will cost & find ways to design functional parts & assemblies in a cost-effective way
• Your designs consider manufacturing and field support requirements
• You know how tolerances affect part cost & part-to-part variation in manufacturing
• During the design, you keep the simplicity of assembly, maintenance, and manufacturability in mind
• You choose the right functionality and take quality, cost, and delivery time into account
• You work independently and in team on mainly large mechanical systems, with hundreds of structural, functional, and moving parts
• You take ownership for the mechanical design of your products, from concept to detailing phase
• You work efficiently on 3D CAD models and 2D detailed drawings in SolidWorks (or comparable CAD software)
• Experienced in participating in design reviews & FMEA’s, including cost reviews
• Willing to mentor more junior team members
• Experience with Solidworks PDM or a similar data management system is a big plus
• Willing to take an active role in setting up design guidelines and align on methodology with the mechanical design team (across different R&D Locations)
• You are able/willing to work with external engineering companies. Experience with machine engineering companies is a plus
• You enjoy working together and sharing ideas with similar profiles
• You make complete and correct order packages and follow up suppliers for the production and purchase parts

PROFILE

• Higher technical education (e.g., Master electro/mechanics) or equivalent through experience
• Strong and broad interest in mechanical engineering and new technologies
• + 10 years of experience as a mechanical engineer
• Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge of mechanics (will be tested)
• Inventive and problem-solving thinker who can also focus on deadlines
• You like drawing in SolidWorks (+ 80% of the time)
• Loves working in a dynamic environment and to collaborate with other people
• Willingness to travel (limited), e.g., for kick-off session with new supplier
• You are able a technical conversation on mechanical design in English
• You are generally considered a nice person
